Caring for Carcinoid Foundation - Survivor Stories

- Cancer type: Carcinoid
- Diagnosis year: 2006
- Home: Greene, NY - USA
I LOVE my work! I work with students who have been identified as
challenged either mentally, physically, or with multiple issues. I
help them with their basic educational needs as a teacher.
I have wonderful neighbors who insist that I shall and will beat this
crazy diagnosis called carcinoid cancer. I attend all the relays for
life that I can and look into trying to start a carcinoid cancer team.
I also spend a lot of time denying that there is anything wrong.
But I do get my treatments every month and visit websites like this to
remind myself of the reality that I must take care of myself.
My daughter has been wonderfully supportive through all this. She
has made me laugh when she sees me getting too serious and brings the
grandchildren to see me on a regular basis.
I could go on about hobbies like painting and writing, but they are a
small part of survival. It's the people - other people help me
through.
I write to people.
I talk to outreach centers that don't know anything about carcinoid
cancer.
I ask questions about food and do my own experimenting.
I read and research.
Have faith! Faith in your doctors, your friends and yourself!
St. Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer. You don't have to be
Roman Cathollic to look him up and read about him.
Talk to uplifting people and try to get out of yourself.
Think toward life - go forward, live each day to its fullest.
