Caring for Carcinoid Foundation - Survivor Stories
Anil Abraham

Click photo for full size
- Cancer type: Carcinoid
- Diagnosis year: 1994
- Home: Dubai - United Arab Emirates
From the time I have been diagnosed with carcinoid in 1994, I have had
only one thought--not to give up. Today after 5 surgeries and
innumerable treatments that thought still drives me.
I have continued with my flying job and have a very supporting family.
I live my life to the fullest and am always short of time trying to do the
things that I want to.
Being a father to two boys helps because I am totally involved with their
needs. My family is enough reason for me to survive.
The web is a great source of information. While I have an excellent
employer in Emirates Airlines who have whole heartedly supported me
financially most of the time I have initiated the treatments myself with
information from the web.
I have experimented and listened to a lot of views on how to manage the
disease but all the decisions have been mine. I have so far had a
combination of surgery, chemo, chemoembolization, nuclear isotope therapy
and Radio Frequency Ablation.
I am 100% sure that the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation will soon find a
complete cure and I aim to survive till then.
The fact that you have read this is enough indication that you want to
fight your illness.
There is help out there and all we have to do is to reach out for that
help. There are many survivors like me with more interesting stories
and who have fought harder battles.
You can be one of them--just don't give up!
