A READING IN THE HEALING GARDEN WITH CARRIE HOST

"I do have a future, and the picture of that future is made up of a multitude of tiny dots called 'right now.'" Carrie Host, Between Me and the River.

The Healing Garden provides the perfect sanctuary to find comfort and inspiration in Carrie's words as she shares her message of finding inner strength and purpose in the "right now".

Celebrate the stories and work of other survivors who have used their experience to help others. Experience how nature and the magnificent view from the Healing Garden contribute to a renewal of energy, hope and connection to others and the greater world.

PATIENT SEMINAR

Join your fellow NET patients for a day of question and answer and other educational events.  Ask leading specialists from multiple fields the questions you want answered.  These experts will share the latest in carcinoid/related NET understanding and treatment. This will be an active lecture/question-and-answer format. In order to guarantee your question gets answered, submit it today to askthedoctor@caringforcarcinoid.org by September 1, 2009.

The Patient Seminar will also feature patients Carrie Host and Ruth Gerdes speaking about their struggles dealing with carcinoid cancer. CFCF Board Member, Carrie Host, will speak about Between Me and the River, her recently published memoir of how she found the strength and fortitude to triumph over carcinoid cancer, and craft a new and meaningful life.  Ruth Gerdes, who underwent a unique surgery to save her life, will provide advice on how to take control of your care.

BOSTON BENEFIT

Enjoy an evening at one of Boston’s hippest attractions, House of Blues in the unique and luxurious Foundation Room, located just steps away from historic Fenway Park. There will be a silent auction, live music and appetizers.  Come join your friends, family, physicians and fellow survivors for this night of fun!

All money raised at the Boston Benefit will go directly to funding the first large-scale genomics study of carcinoid, dedicated to identifying the genes that are likely to cause carcinoid.  CFCF selected this project to revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of carcinoid and related NET patients.  Ultimately, this study may lead to new therapies ‘personalized’ to each patient, specific mutations, as well as earlier detection and diagnosis, and prevention strategies.  As no targeted therapies for carcinoid currently exist, this project provides an exciting hope for the future, and our goal of achieving a cure.

If you would like to donate items for the silent auction at the Boston Benefit please contact Ashley Malins
